Participation in Professional Life

The ability to earn an income in a regular job is a crucial precondition for social participation and integration. This fact is especially true for disabled people and hence is giving major attention to in the rehabilitation law in force. The goal here is to support disabled people or people threatened by disablement in the best possible preservation or recovery of their working ability, in order to allow them constant active participation in working life.

The services needed to support disabled people in their participation in the working force are being provided by the rehabilitation providers. In order to conceptualize successful individual rehabilitation therapies a number of parameters need to be incorporated. These parameters include qualification, interests and previous professional experience of the person as well as the current job market situation and its expected development. It is seen as a major advantage if services designed to support the participation of disabled people in professional life are delivered ambulatory or close to the residence of the person. If possible, operational measures of integration are preferred as they are more likely to upgrade a person’s chances on the job market.
