If curative medicine, including all related rehabilitative measures, is not able to provide successful treatment, it is the task of rehabilitative medicine to obviate or soften the consequences of illness, such as disability and social disadvantages (e.g. disablement, incapacity to earn an income, need for nursing care).
In terms of a highly functional and result-oriented health care supply structure, and a positive rehabilitation prognosis provided, medical rehabilitation becomes indispensable whenever curative therapy is not able to furnish the necessary, individualized treatment.
The BAR department for medical rehabilitation aims at coordinating the services of all providers involved in the field of medical rehabilitation (health- , pension- and accident insurance, veterans care, youth welfare, social welfare) according to the statutes of the BAR and the current legislative framework.

The main focus of the BAR department “Medical Rehabilitation” is the processing and management of principle questions of medical rehabilitation.
